The Parish of Bengeo

A family, together in faith with God our Father

Our Places

There’s a thousand years of history written into the lives of our church buildings in Bengeo. St. Leonard’s and Holy Trinity are symbols of tradition, continuity and pride for many generations of local people.

St Leonard's Exterior

The famous architectural historian Nikolaus Pevsner notes the ancient parish church of St. Leonard as ‘a rare example of an original Norman village church’. Visit St. Leonard’s today and you’ll see a church little changed over 800 years. Allow time to study the early medieval wall paintings, the anchorite cell, some fine monuments and architectural detail, or simply sit and enjoy the atmosphere of a sacred place whose very walls seem soaked in prayer.

Holy Trinity Exterior

Holy Trinity was completed in 1855, in the Gothic style beloved of the Victorians, one of many projects in a huge national programme of church building. Today, Holy Trinity Church is a defining landmark feature of the parish, its spire clearly visible as you approach the town of Hertford from the north. This is a building we’re proud to share, with doors open and a warm welcome on offer should you want to arrange a planned visit or just drop by.

Our church hall

Why not explore our other facilities? Bengeo Parish boasts a church hall equipped to host a wide variety of events. The hall, situated on Duncombe Road, Bengeo, will meet your requirements for most children’s parties, baptism receptions, formal meetings and informal gatherings. Drop by to see if the church hall will suit you.
